Faces of Hope: Sr. M. Rafaela, Argentina

In the jubilee year, we are launching a special series: On the 1st of every month, a mini-documentary about one of our sisters will be released.

Through their personal stories and diverse fields of work and apostolate, it becomes visible how the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary live out their mission today.

Whether in direct service to the Schoenstatt Movement, in pastoral ministry, in social or academic fields — each story is unique, and yet they all have one thing in common: like Mary, they want to make the message of God’s love tangible.

We hope you enjoy the faces, places, and experiences that bring a piece of our worldwide mission to life!

“We try to be Mary in the world of healthcare. This means bringing people her hands, her eyes, her heart…” With these words, Sr. M. Rafaela seeks to describe the way the Sisters of Mary walk through the corridors, rooms, and hidden corners of the Mater Dei Hospital in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She defines it as a “sacred space,” because accompanying those who suffer is a privilege. She speaks of the sacred space of the “Hospital-Shrine”: the sanctuary that is the heart of each person we serve and accompany, as well as the hearts of those who share with us the mission of being instruments of the Blessed Mother—Mater Dei, Mother of God.

Living this presence in a fully secular environment, Sr. M. Rafaela experiences it in very concrete terms: I am the work and instrument of Mary, and freely, each day, I offer my “here I am.”
