Mexico

Our Schoenstatt Shrine and center in central Mexico is located in Querétaro, approximately three hours from Mexico City. Our sisters welcome hundreds of pilgrims to the shrine every weekend throughout the year. The shrine is well known and has been designated by the Department of Tourism as an official tourist site.

The sisters living in our house in Querétaro host retreats and other events for members of our Schoenstatt Movement and other groups. The spacious grounds include a gift shop, a cafeteria, a playground for children, a cactus garden around the shrine, a youth house, and an open-air gathering space where Sunday Masses and other activities take place.

In connection with the movement work, our sisters are involved in various apostolic initiatives:

As a support to local dioceses, the sisters offer a marriage preparation program for engaged couples. In the form of weekend retreats or regularly scheduled workshops, topics such as sound communication, sexuality, responsible parenting, and the meaning of the sacrament of matrimony are presented and discussed. The topics are guided by the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia and presented from the standpoint of Schoenstatt’s pedagogical principles and methods.

Every year during Holy Week, hundreds of Schoenstatt Youth from all parts of Mexico participate in the Misiones Juveniles – México Luz de María (Youth Missions – Mexico, Light of Mary). Accompanied by Schoenstatt Fathers and Schoenstatt Sisters, the youth visit various communities in order to accompany the people in their celebration of Holy Week and create a powerful experience of faith for them. The Holy Week liturgies, workshops, and various other activities are prepared. The young missionaries hope to bring the light of Mary to all they visit through their joyful spirit of faith.
