Sister M. Carmín Moyet shares about how she serves our mission through her work…
What is your task?
As a Schoenstatt Sister of Mary, my main task is to strive to be a little Mary. My secondary task is to be a seamstress for our community.
How do you think that your work makes a difference in the world?
I have been working in the sewing room for twenty-four of the thirty years that I have been a Sister. I enjoy my work very much! Not only because I like to sew but also because I believe that, with every stitch, I can contribute to the renewal of the world in Christ.
Every day, I have many opportunities to offer sacrifices to the capital of grace. For example, when a project doesn’t turn out as I had envisioned, when the sewing machine stops working (this seems to happen especially when I am in a hurry to finish something!), when I accidentally hurt my finger with a pin, etc. I am always amazed at how many opportunities I have throughout the day to prove my love for God and our Blessed Mother. If only we would always be aware of these opportunities – then the capital of grace would overflow, and many souls would benefit from it!
The second way that I believe I can help in the renewal of the world is by sewing our dress – or, as we call it, “the dress of Mary.” As Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary, we long to resemble the Blessed Mother as much as possible, each in our own original way. Every time I make a dress for one of our Sisters, I contribute to the fulfillment of this longing in a very tangible way. Our dress is a constant reminder for us of our mission. It unites us. Our dress allows us to make God present in the world today without even having to say a word! I admire every finished dress with great joy because I know that I couldn’t do what I do without God’s help.
Is there a particular saint that inspires you in your task?
I often think of St. Therese of Lisieux, who, through her prayers and sacrifices, became the patroness of missionaries from within the walls of her convent. God can work great things through our small, everyday contributions. I offer everything from the walls of the sewing room.
Are there any outstanding experiences you could share related to your task?
I recently had the opportunity to sew for our Sisters in South Africa. It was a great joy for me to be there and help them with all their sewing needs. I could meet some very nice people and see some of the country’s beauty during my stay there. I also had the gift of visiting the various places where our Founder was during his travels to South Africa.
